Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa!
All of us here at  Casa Dante wish you and your families the most joyous of holidays.  
If you're still not sure about your Christmas Eve plans, consider Casa Dante  for Christmas Eve Dinner. We are serving from 2pm till 9pm. Our regular menu and our annual Seven Fish Prix Fixe dinner. Just right for family & friends.

If you haven't given New Years Eve any thought, now is the time. Its less than 14 days away. We had a great time last year with Julian & Dominiques song stylings. They're back this year and we look forward to a fab night. Reserve now...serving dinner from 2pm till 9 in our front dining room and the New Years Eve Bash starts in our banquet room at 8:30 PM.

    

If you've been here during this holiday, you know its always alot of fun. The New Years Bash starts at 8:30 pm. It includes Champagne toast,  a great Casa Dante dinner, cocktail, party favors and entertainment, televised feed from Times Square and more..We will open our doors at 3 PM for regular diners in our front room.I'll be posting more information as we get closer right here and on our website. Holiday Recipe's

Egg Nog ( the lost art)




Ingredients

·         4 cups milk

·         5 whole cloves

·         1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

·         1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

·         12 egg yolks

·         1 1/2 cups sugar

·         2 1/2 cups light rum

·         4 cups light cream

·         2 teaspoons vanilla extract

·         1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Directions

1.   Combine milk, cloves, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, and cinnamon in a saucepan, and heat over lowest setting for 5 minutes. Slowly bring milk mixture to a boil.

2.   In a large bowl, combine egg yolks and sugar. Whisk together until fluffy. Whisk hot milk mixture slowly into the eggs. Pour mixture into saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly for 3 minutes, or until thick. Do not allow mixture to boil. Strain to remove cloves, and let cool for about an hour.

Stir in rum, cream, 2 teaspoon vanilla, and nutmeg. Refrigerate overnight before serving.

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there. The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugar-plums danced in their head.
And mamma in her Kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap. When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer. With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St Nick. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name! "Now Dasher! , now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, Donner and Blitzen! To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall! Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!" As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky. So up to the house-top the coursers they flew, With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. As I drew in my head, and was turning around, Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound. He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot. A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back, And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack. His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow. The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath. He had a broad face and a little round belly, That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!  He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself! A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk. And laying his finger aside of his nose, And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose! He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,?And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight, "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

Only days till Christmast Eve Dinner. The time has flown by and, like everyone else, we can't believe the holiday is upon us. Please join us for Christmas Eve Dinner. We are serving from 2pm till 9pm. Our regular menu and our annual Seven Fish Prix Fixe dinner. 
This has become quite a tradition here at Casa Dante. A warm time for family and friends. Make reservations for a very special evening with us.

    Holiday Recipe's
    Artichoke Turnovers by Martha Stewart

    a warm cheesy artichoke filling is at the heart of these puff
    pastry pockets
    • Prep time 30 minutes
    • Total Time?2 hours 20 minutes
    • Yield?Makes 40?Serves 8 to 10

    Ingredients
    • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
    • 1 large shallot, minced
    • 2 teaspoons minced garlic (from 3 small cloves)
    • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour, plus more for surface
    • 1/2 cup dry white wine
    • 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
    • 1/2 cup homemade or store-bought low-sodium chicken stock, warmed
    • Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper
    • Pinch of cayenne pepper
    • 1 pound frozen artichoke hearts, thawed and chopped (3 cups)
    • 1/2 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese (1 ounce)
    • 1/2 cup finely grated Pecorino Romano cheese (1 ounce)
    • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh thyme
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons finely grated lemon zest
    • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
    • 2 packages (14 ounces each) frozen puff pastry, thawed
    • 1 large egg, lightly beaten for egg wash
    Directions
    • Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Cook shallot and garlic for 1 minute. Add flour, and cook, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes. Add wine, and cook until reduced by half, about 2 minutes. Whisk in milk and stock. Bring to a boil. Season with 1 teaspoon salt, some pepper, and the cayenne. Simmer until thickened, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat, and stir in artichoke hearts, cheeses, thyme, zest, and mustard. Let cool completely. Refrigerate until ready to use.
    • Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll out puff pastry to a 1/8-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Cut into forty 3-inch squares (you will have pastry left over).
    • Arrange 1 tablespoon artichoke mixture in center of each square. Brush 2 perpendicular edges with egg wash, and fold over to form a triangle with remaining edges, pressing to seal. Brush 1 corner of triangle with egg wash and join it to the opposite point. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with remaining dough and filling. Refrigerate or freeze until firm, 30 minutes to 1 hour.
    Brush turnovers with egg wash. Bake until golden, about 20 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes. Serve immediately.

    Holiday Recipe's
    Gingerbread Men

    Ingredients
    • 1 (3.5 ounce) package cook and serve butterscotch pudding mix
    • 1/2 cup butter
    • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    Directions
    1. In a medium bowl, cream together the dry butterscotch pudding mix, butter, and brown sugar until smooth. Stir in the egg. Combine the flour, baking soda, ginger, and cinnamon; stir into the pudding mixture. Cover, and chill dough until firm, about 1 hour.
    2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease baking sheets. On a floured board, roll dough out to about 1/8 inch thickness, and cut into man shapes using a cookie cutter. Place cookies 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
    Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven, until cookies are golden at the edges. Cool on wire racks.
