 My Table, at Casa Dante

I wanted to post this from Bronx Little Italy site. The bruschetta photo (below) is from a cousins Sicily trip.

Bruschetta is an Italian favorite. Who doesn't love a little toasted bread topped with olive oil, tomatoes, and basil? What you may no...t know is that this wasn't the traditional form of bruschetta. Originally the bread was roasted over the fire (bruschetta comes from the Italian word 'bruciare' which means to burn,) and then topped only with olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper. It wasn't until recently, the late 1900's, that putting tomatoes on bruschetta became popular...a tradition that started in America!
