What
are "Stuzzichini" or "Tapas"
Small
plates generally served in an informal fashion in a cocktail party or lounge
setting. We are introducing this concept in our bar and lounge area for those
of you expressing a desire to "have a little something" with your
cocktail or wine. Again, these are meant to give more than a taste of a
favorite item and still try another item without overindulging.
I'm a
fan of picking on many different foods when I eat so this is right up my alley.
A Sicilian meatball, sausage bruschetta, a few pieces of Calamari and a glass
of red wine. Sounds delicious? Well, come in on Friday afternoon Happy Hour as
we introduce this concept and it will remail on our bar menu daily.

My Two Cents
Over the years
restaurant owners and operators have jumped at trends, fads and whatever it is
that the public demands. But I have never seen such a keen interest in what the
public forums are extolling in the way of remarks, reviews and, sometimes, just
plain trash.
But we take these
seriously, whether they are meant to be or not.
The first thing I
do every morning ( well, second thing I do) is check out new
reviews on Yelp; or Open Table; or Citysearch; and on and on. I need to make
sure that we, as well as our customers, are well represented and treated
fairly. This may not always be the case. In the early days of "online
criticism" we were subjected to obvious "agenda" driven
reports. " I
hate Joe's Deli, but you need to try "Frank's Place"....signed Frank! Well, that probably still goes on, but alot of the
filtering process removes these types of abuses.
The abuses that are more
difficult to track, however, are the reviews meant to garner a
prize for the writer. These are touchy, difficult and very costly
reviews. "I didn't want to complain when I was there, but the steak was
not cooked to my liking!", " the waiter served me the wrong wine, but
I drank it anyway", " I had a wonderful night but it was marred
by the valet who too long to get my car". Right or wrong, these may
keep other customers away, and thats where the terrible "cost" is
factored in. Loss of income due to an overzealous critic. Help!
Obviously, we in the
business can stumble at any point during a meal...even getting the patrons back
to their cars. We absorb responsibility for all of that....and yet, its all in
a days work. For the most part, we take it in stride and the customer is
always right. And we love every minute of it.
