See you soon at
Casa Dante!
Just got back
from Italy; Sicily to be specific. Palermo, in particular, is a beautiful
and diverse city. Founded by the Phoenicians, run by the Greeks
Romans, Moors, Normans, Spanish and you name it. Residents are friendly, to a
point, and enjoy life to fullest. The city is a vibrant center of business
activity and tourism. Most of northern Europe sees Sicily as their
"Bahamas", if you will. Great beaches, mountains and food! Which is
what I was getting at.
Sicilian cuisine
tends to be more fish driven; along with fresh sauces ( no hours of
cooking the "gravy" as in Napoli) , green vegetables, fruits, olives
and Sicilian wine. We had great meals along Via Ruggero Settimo, near the
Teatro Massimo ( where Don Corleones daughter was shot on the steps of the
famous opera house ). Wonderful dishes both traditional Italian and
Sicilian specialties like Pasta con Sarde, Caponata, Panelle.......I can
go on and on.
We highly
recommend a tour of this ancient and important island. You haven't really been
to Italy without seeing Sicily and Palermo! See our facebook pages for Palermo
photos.

My Two Cents
Dining in NYC
As
a former owner of a NYC restaurant, I must admit that the city experience can't
be beaten. When it comes to diversity of food, culture, entertainment and
staggering views there is no comparison. The city takes on a new look, in my
opinion, every ten years or so. Businesses come and go, styles are accepted
then rejected. People move in for the action and heperactivity, then
move out for the same reason. The turnover is tremendous which makes NYC what
it is. A vast, vibrant, ever-changing, and yes ever-fickle environment for
just about anything and anyone. Here today and gone tomorrow. Anyone talk
about Giuliani anymore? Get my point?
Im
goint to my table to have a meal I could have ordered here fifteen years ago,
and very happy I can still do so. Cheers!
Thanks
