  My Two Cents.....

     The Skyway issue:

·  you may have heard that the state is considering closing the northbound section of the Pulaski Skyway for an extended two year period following next years Super Bowl. This could be a tragic event for businesses in and around Jersey City as well as Hoboken and Bayonne. The Skyway is a very important conduit for many customers, residents, suppliers and drive through individuals. It could have a calamitous affect on traffic throughout this very busy city. Hundreds of thousands of automobiles currently use this road, or its tributaries weekly and its elimination could change the course of business in this city.  We at Casa Dante, of course, are very concerned about this. Many of our customers travel from long distances in New Jersey and New York. Old friends who have moved but left their hearts in Jersey City could ultimately face the last straw if the Skyway is inaccessible. Other roads leading here will be severely strained and even a true-blue Casa Dante fan has his/her limits on travel and traffic. We implore the DOT to modify this very harsh proposal. We realize that the heavily used road is in need of repair, But, totally closing the road  ultimately creates larger problems than are being fixed.

  My Two Cents.....

     We recently started posting information relative to our "healthier" menu options. Italian food has been derided as being generally fat filled and unhealthy. I must tell you, however, that if you visit Italy, they do not partake in our love of frying, baking and melted cheese dishes. This is a purely American concoction as far as they're concerned. Many Italian dishes are made of simple and fresh ingredients without too much fanfare (as far as overcooking and over-cheesing is concerned) and are very healthy indeed!  A meditteranean sea bass ( Branzino ) is made the same way we do here. Roasted, filletted and dressed with a moderate amount of fine virgin olive oil, lemon and herbs. No big secret. It happens to be our biggest seller, recently displacing veal ala Dante from the number one spot.  We offer many healthier options for those of you who are taking better care of yourselves. And, of course, everything is freshly made to your order!           

·  A recent review claimed that such and such a restaurant had "authentic" Italian dishes, then referred to the sauce and cheese covered Chicken; you now know is authentic "Italian American" Theres no such dish in Italy...anywhere!

     My Two Cents.....

     I don't normally respond to online criticism about Casa Dante. There are so many online sites, with so many opinions about everything that it's hard to discern truth from everything else. But I wanted to respond to someone who wrote that we have "resorted" to providing entertainment. It had a negative connotation and belies the facts:

First of all, we've had live entertainment and dancing here since 2006. It is our feeling that dinner alone is great, but live music makes any night special. We want our friends and patrons to have a "special" night when they come here. We enjoy live acts and wanted to provided a venue for this diminishing alternative to DJ's, electronic music and all the other reproduced sounds to which we've grown accustomed.

If this is considered a gimmick to induce customers to come in and try our great food...well so be it. Who are we making unhappy?.  People leave here with smiles on their faces and a promise to return. Great food, great music and we've accomplished what we set out to do.

As for the cynic who thinks we "resort" to entertainment to get people here...well, we also resort to high quality dishes to keep you coming back. That's not a crime, just good showmanship!   See you soon!
